As part of its work to promote sustainable agriculture and protect the environment, the NGO Change Human’s Life carried out an in-depth consultation with rural populations to raise awareness of the issues surrounding climate change and biodiversity. The aim of this initiative was to promote a better understanding of international processes such as the Conference of the Parties (COP15) and to enable communities to play an active part in making decisions that affect their daily lives.
Climate change, land degradation and biodiversity loss are major challenges that directly affect the farming activities of rural populations. These problems have a significant impact on local ecosystems and food security. In regions where agriculture is the main activity, these phenomena lead to yield variability, loss of natural resources and reduced soil productivity.
Against this backdrop, the Conference of the Parties (COP15), which is focusing on the fight against biodiversity loss, is becoming a key event. However, the vast majority of rural populations are unaware of the mechanisms of this conference and have no access to information about the decisions taken. What’s more, their involvement in the decision-making process remains limited, which is holding back action on the ground.
The NGO Change Human’s Life organised several consultation sessions in different rural communities. These sessions provided an opportunity to hear people’s concerns, inform them about the international framework of COP15 and promote more active participation in decisions relating to climate change and the management of natural resources.
Local people expressed an urgent need for environmental education and training in environmentally-friendly farming techniques. Awareness of agro-ecology and the use of seeds adapted to local climatic conditions were particularly highlighted.
During the discussions, a number of measures were proposed to make communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change:
Participants also expressed the need to be involved in decision-making forums so that their voices are heard, particularly in discussions concerning agricultural and environmental policies.
Faced with the challenges of climate change, land degradation and biodiversity loss, it is imperative to put in place concrete actions to support rural populations. The NGO Change Human’s Life remains committed to supporting local communities in adopting sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring their active participation in international decision-making processes, such as COP15.
Dialogue between authorities, international organisations and local communities is essential to strengthen the impact of public policies and ensure the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
Change Human’s Life invites decision-makers to support local initiatives for sustainable development and encourages the continuation of this consultation for a more equitable and resilient future in the face of environmental challenges.
We are working to create a more responsible society. Let’s build a better future together!
